By graduationparty, on March 31st, 2011% In a recent GraduationParty.com survey, parents said using social media like Facebook to invite people didn’t work very well since lots of guests who confirmed online ended up being no-shows. Of those parents sending invitations using social media, more than 50% were happy with their ability to control who was invited, but less than 40% felt they had a good idea as to how many people would attend.
One mom said that the the people she mailed paper invitations to attended the party. But for the people invited over Facebook, only about 10% showed up.
Another mom said that her older son graduated back in the days of using the US Mail and handing out invitations in school. This time she used Facebook and it was scary since almost 350 people confirmed they were coming! In the end only 60 kids stopped by.
GraduationParty.com recommends using Facebook and other social media websites as a supplement to mailing or handing out fun, attention-getting invitations to the people on your “A-list”. You shouldn’t rely on online invitations as your main way to invite people, especially those people you really want to come.

By graduationparty, on June 2nd, 2009% If your son or daughter is bringing home graduation party invitations you may be wondering if you’re invited to these parties too, especially if the invitations didn’t come through the mail addressed to you. What is the etiquette for these situations? You don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings by not going to their party but you also don’t want to show up to a party if the invitation wasn’t meant for you.
First look at the invitation to see what kind of party it is. For open house type parties go to the parties for the students you know personally and avoid the parties for the grads you don’t know. If it’s an open house then chances are many people have been invited and even if you weren’t specifically invited it’s probably okay for you to go. If it’s a sit down dinner (most aren’t) and an RSVP is required then if the invitation wasn’t addressed to you then you weren’t invited.
Another question is whether your other kids are invited. If you’re not sure if you should bring your younger children it might be best to hire a sitter. If you know the family has kids the same age it’s probably okay to bring yours. But when in doubt . . . → Read More: My grad got an invitation. Am I invited too?
By graduationparty, on February 23rd, 2009% Show different sides of your grad with a variety of photos on their graduation invitations. Include a cute baby picture, their first day of school, a picture with their best friend, a sport or activity photo, a photo of a memorable accomplishment, a photo from their high school years, or any combination of these.
There are no right or wrong pics to use when creating a multiple photo invitation. Just make sure your grad approves of any photos you do choose. A baby picture that’s cute and funny to you may be extremely embarrassing to them. Make sure you show the photos to your grad first or, even better, give them a few to choose from and let them make the final selection. They’ll appreciate being included in the process and you won’t be in big trouble for making the wrong choice
Most professional printers (online or local) offer a selection of multiple photo invitations you can choose from. Check out the photo invitations at Pear Tree Greetings or these options from GraduationParty.cceasy.com:

There’s no right or wrong answer as to which photo(s) you should include. Whatever you pick is perfectly fine. Just make sure you check with your grad so they’re happy with the photos you use.

By graduationparty, on January 10th, 2009% Graduation “Save the Date” cards are growing in popularity. Most people send them out to family and friends to let them know the date of the upcoming party. “Save the Date” cards can be sent as soon as you are sure about the date and time of your party. Graduation invitations are sent later, closer to the party, when you have all the details finalized.
The purpose of “Save the Date” cards is to let people reserve the date and time for your party so they don’t make other plans for the same time. They’re very important for people who live out of town and who may need to make travel arrangements such as booking flights, reserving hotels, reserving a car, etc. The sooner you give these folks a date the better since they may want to take advantage of travel sales or air miles.
If you’re having a large graduation party or an open house you don’t need to send Save the Date cards to everyone on your guest list. For larger celebrations most people just send them to family, close friends and out of town guests. But if you’re having a smaller get together or a sit down meal then you may want to send them to everyone on your list.

By graduationparty, on January 4th, 2009% Another popular choice for graduation invitations is Open House Invitations. While you can order imprinted Open House Cards from an online printer such as GraduationParty.cceasy.com a more economical option is to order blank Open House Cards and fill in the details yourself. It’s a little more work but the cost savings may be worth it.
The purpose of Graduation Open House Cards is to invite friends and family to your Open House celebration. They’re a little more casual than Graduation Invitations because they don’t actually “annouce” the graduation but some people prefer a more casual approach.
You can use your home computer & printer to print the details on the cards but it will take some time, work and patience to make sure each card is lined up correctly before it’s fed through your printer. If you go this route make sure you have lots of extra blank cards to allow for any cards that don’t line up or print corrrectly.
Most people fill in blank Open House Cards by hand. It may take more time to do this but if you’re having a small celebration or if you can recruit some help to write the cards then it may be worth it. . . . → Read More: Blank Graduation Open House Cards
By graduationparty, on January 3rd, 2009% An economical way to create graduation invitations is to design and print them yourself on your home computer. You can start with a blank sheet of paper or you can buy blank graduation-themed invitations. Your “design” can be anything you want and is only limited by your imagination.
If you use a blank sheet of paper your invitation can be any size up to 8.5 ” x 11″ which is the size of a normal sheet of paper and is usually the largest size your home printer will take. You can use regular paper or you can buy heavier or fancier stock like parchment paper at your local office supply store.
Blank graduation-themed invitations come in a variety of sizes including 8.5″ x 11″ letterhead, 5.5″ x 7.75″ flat card invitations, 5.5″ x 8.5″ 2-up invitations (you print 2 invitations per 8.5″ x 11″ sheet), and 3.875″ x 9.25″ slim invitations. Graduation-themed letterhead is usually a little heavier than regular printer paper. Other blank graduation-themed invitations are usually card stock quality.
You can also buy colored or graduation-themed envelopes to match the invitations you design yourself or the blank graduation-themed invitations. Envelopes come in a variety of sizes . . . → Read More: "You Print" Blank Graduation Invitations
